Empowering Cardiovascular Health: HTAF's Role in Advancing JKCI's Mission in Tanzania and Africa

Established in 2015, Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) faces challenges in providing and accessing Cardiovascular care due to the increasing prevalence of Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs).

JKCI established Heart Team Africa Foundation (HTAF) under a Non-Governmental Organization Act, No. 24 to enhance patient support, community awareness, resource mobilization, medical research advancement, capacity building, accountability, and transparency on management of CVDs.

The Journey of HTAF: Our Story Unfolds

Foundation Activities

Raising Awareness

conduct extensive awareness campaigns to educate the public about cardiovascular diseases, their risk factors, and preventive measures.

Conducting Training and Education

HTAF is actively promoting training for healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and non-clinical staff, to improve their knowledge and skills in managing cardiovascular diseases.

Conducting Research and Advocacy

The foundation will collaborate with universities and organizations to conduct research on cardiovasculardiseases in Tanzania and Africa, empowering healthcare workers and identifying risk factors for improved treatment.

Conducting Community Outreach Programs

The foundation is committed to partnering with local community-based organizations, religiousinstitutions, and local leaders to implement targeted interventions promoting cardiovascular health.

Capacity Building

The foundation is collaborating with healthcare institutions and the government to enhance and improve cardiovascular care capacity.

Collaboration with Government and NGOs

The foundation plans to collaborate with government agencies and NGOs to enhance resourceutilization, share best practices, and coordinate comprehen- sive strategies to combatcardiovascular diseases.

To Influence Policy Makers

The foundation actively works with policymakers and stakeholders at regional, national, andinternational levels to advocate for policies that prioritize cardio- vascular health.

Promoting Use of Telemedicine and Mobile Health

The foundation plans to utilize telemedicine and mobile health technologies to enhance healthcare accessibility in remote areas, enabling remote consulta- tions, patient monitoring, and timely interventions.

To Develop Mobile Health Applications

The foundation plans to create user-friendly mobile applications for cardiovas- cular health, offering tools for risk assessment, medication reminders, and healthy lifestyle tips.

Conducting School-based Well-being Programs

The foundation plans to create interactive programs for schools and universi- ties to educate children and adolescents about heart health, including age-ap- propriate workshops, physical activity initiatives, and healthy eating campaigns.
